Project Outline

Organization: The Dreams Mountaineering Team

Cooperation from:

Sankai Laboratory,
Graduate School of Information and Systems Engineering,
University of Tsukuba

Ken NOGUCHI (Alpinist)

Dates: 2-9 August 2006

Location: The Breithorn, Zermatt, Switzerland

The aim of the project is to assist severely disabled persons, without functionality in their limbs, to ascend to the top of a 4000m (13,000 ft) snow-capped mountain. Together we will aim for the summit of the Breithorn with two severely disabled people, one quadriplegic as the result of an accident and the other suffering from muscular dystrophy.

We will be assisted by two experts who want to help people achieve their goals; Tsukuba University professor Yoshiyuki Sankai, the inventor of the robot suit "HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb)" and the noted alpinist Ken Noguchi.

Cutting-edge technology and the support of mountaineering experts have made this difficult challenge a possibility.

In pursuing new possibilities for disabled people, we can make one dream come true. But the achievement doesn't end with just one person. We aim to bring courage and hope to all disabled people and children facing difficult circumstances.
