This arduous challenge was made possible through a collaboration between cutting-edge technology and a mountaineering specialist. Exploring new possibilities for the physically challenged and making one dream come true is our goal, but our success will mean more than the fulfillment of that individual goal. We are aiming to give hope to physically challenged people in difficult situations, to children, and to all people.

HAL Robot Suit
HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb) Power-Assisted Robot Suit

This system, which combines human and machine power, was developed by Professor Yoshiyuki Sankai of Tsukuba University. It uses sensors attached to the skin to read differences in electric potential transmitted from the brain through the peripheral nervous system. It detects signals used for muscle movement and uses them to drive power units attached to the wearer's joints.

By wearing HAL, people can compensate for muscle weakness or reduced functionality that results from spinal injuries. It's a revolutionary technology with a wide variety of possible applications in medical treatment, assistive welfare, nursing care, and disaster victim rescue. In this expedition a person with no physical disabilities will wear the suit and attempt to climb to the peak of a mountain while carrying a disabled person on his back.

We're striving to open the future for the physically challenged
